1. What is the difference between Large Cap, Mid Cap, Small Cap, and Micro Cap?

These terms are often used in Equity markets, Mutual funds, and other finances.

These terms are based on the Market capitalization of the companies. In Simple terms, this is just a size of a company. More details are given below.

2. What is Market capitalization?

In Simple terms, it is the total value of the company. Companies in India are in the range of very small market caps to very large market caps.

For simple calculation:

If the price of the stock is 1000rs the and company has a 10cr share in the market, the market cap is 10000 crore.

3. What is the range for these to be called Large/Mid/Small/Micro caps?

Companies with a Market cap of more than 20000cr Rs are Large cap. While some consider >45000.
Companies with a Market cap of between 5000cr to 20000cr Rs are Midcap. While some consider 15000-45000 as Midcap.
Companies with a Market cap of fewer than 1000cr Rs are Small cap. While some consider 5000-15000 as a Small cap.
Companies with a Market cap of fewer than 1000cr Rs are also called Microcap.

They are also determined by the Ranking of companies:

1 to 100 by Market Capitalization are Large Caps.
101 to 250 by Market Capitalization are Mid Caps.
251+ by Market Capitalization are Small Caps.

This is where Mid caps Funds only invest in 101 to 250 companies with a small % of others if allowed.

4. What are Large cap, Mid cap & Small cap Funds?

Mutual funds are for funds that invest in the type of company.
A Fund only investing in Large caps are Large cap mutual fund.
A Fund only investing in Mid-caps are Mid cap mutual funds.
A Fund only investing in Small caps are Small cap mutual funds.
A Fund only investing in a Mix of three are Flexi/Multi cap mutual funds.

Note: Generally Mutual funds have some combination of another category in small percentages.

5. Where can I find market caps?

You can find these on NSE/BSE websites or other financial websites, Eg: Reliance has a market cap of 15lakh Cr+ and is a Large cap.

6. How to diversify between Large, mid, and small caps?
 
It purely depends on a person's risk appetite, age, and duration. Typically large caps are good for safe investors who don't want to look at their portfolios often. but do note it provides a bit fewer returns than others. A good way is to diversify between all 3 with the majority being Large cap if you're playing safe.

However, there are a lot who prefer an aggressive strategy and just invest in small and mid-caps or even micro-caps.
